A little background on me: I researched buying my new friend for about six months before I finally settled on the Australian Shepherd breed (best decision I've ever made). I have owned my beautiful pup since the second week of February 2014. I purchased 4 different books to prepare for the little guy as I've never owned a puppy of any breed. You honestly couldn't be more of a beginner than me. I've never even lived with a dog previously. Now, onto the book.I purchased 7 different books to prepare for the little guy. In all fairness, 2 were more expensive ($6 & $9). However, this book should be titled, "A guide to preparing for a PUPPY". Although the author references the breed and gives some basic background of the dog, the whole book is extremely basic and not very breed specific. I could list a number of examples, but don't want to give away the information that the author worked hard to publish.
One thing I must say though, on the chapter about toys, the author doesn't agree with stuffed toys for the puppy. While I'd never give him one when I'm not around, these are his favorite toys. He has only gone through one in two months and has 11. He carries them everywhere with him and the one I bought at a local CVS (clearance from valentines day) the week I got him is still his pillow every night as he lays next to me.
In closing, if you are looking for a very basic guide to puppy ownership, this might be the book for you. However, I wouldn't expect to learn "All about the Australian Shepherd".

Very informative book. This book is more for a new owner or potential new owner of the breed. I would recommend this book to anyone who is thinking of owning an Aussie. Wow I didn't get an australian Shepard but that book is good the best ever in the world you should get it
